Losing your virginity is certainly one of life's more memorable moments. The results of a new study show that Americans losing their virginity today are having better experiences than those doing the same 20 to 30 years ago. Researchers questioned over five thousand people at a Midwestern U.S. university over a 23-year period.
Men were found to feel less anxious about their performance compared to men 20 years ago, and women were found to feel less guilty about their first time. Lead researcher Susan Sprecher says the results suggest virginity loss today is not as big of a deal as it was 20 to 30 years ago. Also, first-timers today were found to be more likely to be in a relationship than those a few years ago. Sprecher says this indicates that intimacy is likely to have increased gradually and "so [may] explain why women's pleasure was found to increase over time and their guilt to decrease."
