Attractive People Less Likely to Get Sick

Beautiful people seem to have several advantages in life, and science has just uncovered one more-- pretty people are less likely to get sick. U.S. researchers studied 15 thousand men and women for years, and found that the more physically attractive each participant was rated, the less likely they were to suffer from a wide range of health problems. The researchers say the findings reflect that attractiveness may be a marker of good genes, which also signal good health, and increase the likelihood of having healthy offspring.

The most attractive men were found to have a 20 percent lower risk of high blood pressure, and a 15 percent lower risk of being diagnosed with depression. Women rated most attractive were 21 percent less likely to be diagnosed with high blood pressure, 22 percent less likely to have diabetes, and were 17 percent less likely to suffer with depression. Study leader, Dr. Nils Braakmann, says, "The health benefit may be an indirect outcome of better treatment in societies that value attractiveness.
