Your spouse may be more than just your soulmate, he or she may have similar DNA to you, too. New research finds that married couples are more genetically similar than two randomly chosen individuals. To find this, researchers reviewed data on the DNA of 825 married couples and eight thousand unmarried people. Researchers found that even when controlling for geographical origin, the similarities in DNA between spouses still held. Experts say the genetic effect found in mating may even signal or contribute to social inequality.
