Do you believe a zombie outbreak is possible? The researchers at Cornell University seem to think it could very well be. Researchers modeled the statistical mechanics of zombies and will present their findings at the American Physical Society on March 5th. Alex Alemi, a graduate student involved in the research says, "We build up to a full scale stimulation of an outbreak in the United States, and discover that for 'realistic' parameters, we are largely doomed." He adds that it's unlikely the entire country will be infected at the same time, like depicted in movies and books. He says that while heavily populated cities might be toast within days, less populated areas could be unaffected for weeks. It's thought that the northern Mountain Time Zone could potentially be safe for months.

Have you ever been so angry or anxious that you started to clench your fists? You'll want to get out of that habit. A new study reveals feeling so tense that you clench your fists equates with an increased risk of having a heart attack. In fact, researchers in Australia found that people's risk of having a heart attack is 8.5 times higher during the two hours following an episode of intense anger compared to when people feel less angry. Anxiety was found to be even worse. After periods of intense anxiety heart attack risk was 9.5 times higher over the next two hours. Study leader, Dr. Thomas Buckley says, "The absolute risk of any one anger episode triggering a heart attack is low, [but] our data demonstrates that the danger is real and still there."
Use Gmail? If so, you've probably noticed an issue with the site's autocomplete feature. Usually, the feature kicks in as soon as you start typing the address of a person you've emailed hundreds of times, filling in that person's address for your automatically. However, the bug means Gmail will instead first offer you the address of someone you've only emailed once or twice first. Gmail has acknowledged the problem in a tweet and claims it's working on a fix.

Madonna insists she has no beef with Lady Gaga. She appears in the new issue of Rolling Stone saying, "I don't think she wants my crown. We live in a world where people like to pit women against each other. And this is why I love the idea of embracing other females who are doing what I'm doing. It's important for us to support each other. The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt she blatantly ripped-off one of my songs." The 56-year-old adds, "It's got nothing to do with 'she's taking my crown' or 'she's in some space of mine.' She has her thing. I think she's a very talented singer and songwriter. It was just that one issue. And everybody's obviously ran with it and turned it into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly."

A security guard is selling off his virginity after reading about women doing the same. "I read about girls doing this and thought if they can do it so can I," says Romanian Sorin Salinievici, who dropped out of college because he couldnÂt afford tuition. "The woman that buys my virginity has to look decent. IÂm not saying she has to be very beautiful, but to look normal and be a nice, honest person."
A friend named Vasile Han, 25, told local media: "He has had relationships with girls before but he never found Âthe one he wanted to have sex with. "He takes sex seriously and strongly believes that you should save yourself for the right person. Obviously, by SalinieviciÂs standards, that means an attractive person.
Stephen Hawking has made it clear that he's worried about the future of humanity, and now he's offering a few suggestions to save it, CNET reports. First: Let's try to be nicer to each other. "The human failing I would most like to correct is aggression," the scientist said last week, per the Daily Mail. "It may have had survival advantage in caveman days, to get more food, territory or partner with whom to reproduce, but now it threatens to destroy us all" through nuclear war. There's an alternative, however: "The quality I would most like to magnify is empathy. It brings us together in a peaceful, loving state."
Concerned about you marijuana habit? The results of a new study may help you rest a bit easier. The data shows that among things people take to get high or drunk, weed is the least fatal. Researchers evaluated the fatality risk of these substances by comparing lethal doses to the amount people normally consume.
They determined the deadliest substance was booze, followed by heroin, cocaine, tobacco, ecstasy, and meth. Overall, weed is 114 times less likely to kill you than alcohol is. In fact, marijuana is the only drug in the study "that posed low mortality risk to its users." However, this doesn't mean weed is safe-- it's still addictive, as well as a possible threat to cognitive function. Still, researchers say that the drug's lack of killing power suggests "a strict legal regulatory approach rather than the current prohibition approach."

A new piece in Salon.com, written by a reporter named Alex Gallo-Brown, deals with the subject of gluten intolerance and specifically, intolerance on the part of skeptics who question whether itÂs a legit disorder or something health nuts have either made up or blown out of proportion.
Roughly 6 percent of the population (18 million Americans) believe they suffer from gluten intolerance. But for much of the public, Âgluten-free seems to have become synonymous with upscale foodie fad, a kind of self-diagnosed superiority complex to one of the most staple foodstuffs on earth.
Doing well in school is important, but a lot of things can influence a child's grades. A new study reveals that teachers tend to favor kids most like themselves. German researchers had 94 teachers and 293 of their students complete personality questionnaires. Teachers were also asked to rate their students with a "task-specific" judgement as well as a "global" judgement. For the global judgments it was found teachers tended to give higher scores to students most similar to themselves personality wise. Do you think teachers should put more effort into being less biased, or is being biased inherently human (and therefore unavoidable)?

Using the dishwasher is a modern convenience, but it could also be causing our children to have more allergies. A new study from Sweden reveals that kids living in families that hand-washed their dishes were about 40 percent less likely to develop allergies compared to kids in homes that used a dishwasher. Researcher Dr. Bill Hesselmar says it's probably because hand-washing dishes doesn't get them as clean as the dishwasher does.
This fact actually helps prevent allergies by exposing kids to more bacteria. This falls under the "hygiene hypothesis," or the idea that increased exposure to microbes during early life may stimulate children's immune systems, which in turn may reduce a child's risk of developing allergies. Hesselmar adds that while the findings are an "interesting observation," it's too soon to recommend hand-washing dishes as an allergy-prevention strategy.
Four Pennsylvania college students who order fake IDs form China are in trouble with their school and law enforcement after the package was delivered to the dean of the school. The box was ordered by a student named Dean and he had the package shipped to his campus address but failed to think about the fact that he shared the same name with the dean of the school. The dean received and opened the package, finding eight realistic fake IDs, one of them complete with a student's full name. The students are not facing criminal charges but have been referred to their parents and could face school sanctions.
It has nothing to do with rings or nail polish, but a new study suggests a woman's fingers can say something about her career choice. New data shows that women whose index finger is shorter than their ring finger are more likely to hold traditionally male jobs. In case of the opposite-- a woman having a ring finger shorter than her index finger-- the women studied were more likely to hold stereotypical female careers. This finger ratio-- known as the 2D:4D (digit) ratio-- is related to the amount of testosterone a child is exposed to in the womb.
Study leader John Nye adds, "For women, it is now known that those with high exposure to prenatal testosterone are more likely to show greater confidence, aggressiveness and risk-taking. But how it affects jobs is unclear-- are women with these characteristics more likely to pick those jobs or do cultural norms select for or against women (or men) with certain characteristics? We don't know."
Nicolas Cage will co-star in Oliver Stone's drama about Edward Snowden. He will be playing a former U.S. intelligence officer. The film also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley. Filming is currently underway in Germany.
Nick Gordon still has not been allowed to visit Bobbi Kristina. Bobby Brown's lawyer, Chris Brown, says Gordon has refused to cooperate by coming clean with the events that led to Bobbi Kristina's medical emergency. Chris adds, "It appears that Mr. Gordon did not want his understanding of the facts to be subject to the truthful examination of various experts or Bobby Brown himself. Mr. Gordon has every right to remain silent and not share his version of events with Bobby Brown. Mr. Gordon is not as desperate to visit Bobbi Kristina as he wants the world to believe."
Nineteen years ago, The First Wives Club proved that a movie starring self-proclaimed Âwomen of a certain age could not only become a huge cultural phenomenon, but could also be a box office success.
So why didnÂt the instant classic (which cost $30 million to make but grossed $181 million) get a sequel? In a recent interview with Harvard Business Review, Goldie Hawn says that we can thank HollywoodÂs notorious gender pay gap:
ÂThe big money goes to kids and young menÂbig tent-pole movies, which are expensive but have a great return. The smaller movies arenÂt being made as much. For instance, First Wives Club. We were all women of a certain age, and everyone took a cut in salary to do it so the studio could make what it needed. We all took a smaller back end than usual and a much smaller front end. And we ended up doing incredibly well. The movie was hugely successful. It made a lot of money. We were on the cover of Time magazine. But two years later, when the studio came back with a sequel, they wanted to offer us exactly the same deal. We went back to ground zero. Had three men come in there, they would have upped their salaries without even thinking about it. But the fear of womenÂs movies is embedded in the culture.Â
Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have reached a divorce settlement. The document states that since both parties have accured earnings and earning capacity that makes spousal support irrelevant. They also agreed to share custody of their 5-year-old son, Walker, and will split all parenting costs down the middle. This means there will be no child support either.
The authenticity of reality TV is always questionable at best. TMZ reports that production sources at Keeping Up With The Kardashians say there are very detailed outlines for scenes from season 10 of the show. One storyline includes Kris Jenner throwing a rock at one of the windows of Kim and Kanye's house after she is locked out, and even baby North crying on cue.
Sometimes you just have to rent a house while you wait for your dream house to appear. That's what Beyonce and Jay Z are doing. The couple has been house hunting in L.A. and can't find the one they want. As a result they've opted to rent a house in Holmby Hills that they rented last summer. The rental is 16,000 square feet, has 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and an infinity pool with a waterfall.
Emma Watson has said that she doesn't want to date someone famous but will she make an exception for a prince? Australian tabloid Women's Day is reporting that she and Prince Harry have allegedly been spending time together in secret since first being introduced by a mutual friend.
A source claims that Harry initially reached out to Emma via email inviting her out on a group date. They supposedly hit it off and the royal has become "smitten." The insider also said that Emma and Harry have gotten to know each other well since then. The 24-year-old star took to Twitter to shoot down the rumors by writing, "WORLD...Remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?! also...marrying a Prince is not a prerequisite for being a Princess." She also included a link to a scene from Alfonso Cuaron's 1995 film, A Little Princess.
Emma ended things with her rugby player Matthew Janney last year.
Your daily cup of Joe is hurting your performance far more than it's helping it, according to new research being done at John Hopkins Medical School. Among the negatives associated with consuming caffeine, according to the study:
The ÂGoodÂ: Performance increases due to caffeine intake are the result of caffeine drinkers experiencing a short-term reversal of caffeine withdrawal. But quitting altogether reduces your cognitive performance and has a negative impact on your mood. The only way to get back to normal is to drink caffeine, and when you do drink it, you feel like itÂs taking you to new heights. In reality, the caffeine is just taking your performance back to normal for a short period.
The Bad:Drinking caffeine triggers the release of adrenaline. Adrenaline is the source of the fight-or-flight response, a survival mechanism. When caffeine puts your brain and body into this hyper-aroused state, your emotions overrun your behavior.
The Ugly: Caffeine disrupts the quality of your sleep by reducing rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, the deep sleep when your body recuperates and processes emotions. When caffeine disrupts your sleep, you wake up the next day with an emotional handicap.

Matt Buckland, the head of recruiting for a London-based e-commerce company Forward Partners was on LondonÂs tube, headed to work, when another passenger got on the train:
"I stood to one side to let a lady get by, and ended up blocking a man momentarily. He shoved past me, almost knocking me over, and shouted, told me to go f*** myself," Buckland told the BBC.
A few hours later, Buckland was scheduled to interview an applicant for the company's new developer job and who should walk in but the foul-mouthed man from the Tube. Not surprisingly, the guy didn't get the job. Buckland later tweeted:

Need help keeping your cheating concealed? There's an app for that. It's called HideMyPhone! (HMP) and lets you use your current phone as if it "had a different phone number." The app's description suggests innocent uses, reading, "Whether you're giving our your number at a bar, posting it online or need a new number from a foreign country while abroad or for business. Hide My Phone! lets you manage as many numbers as you need quickly and with no fuss." Additionally, all calls and texts are routed though the app but appear on the phone's screen as if they had been sent to the original number. All of the numbers are rented, and usually expire after 30 days. Do you think this app is brilliant, or just inspires sketchy behavior?
Kristen Stewart may not have gotten any Academy Award love this year but she has a new trophy to put on her mantel. On Friday night, February 20th, the former Twilight star became the first American ever to win a Cesar Award -- the French equivalent of the Oscars.
Kristen was honored for her role in Clouds of Sils Maria -- a film that has yet to be released in the states. She told the crowd, "Juliette, thank you. I'm standing in front of a room of people that I don't need to tell about the power of Juliette Binoche. You can stand in front of her, everything that was happening to me in that film was just me reflecting her. Thank you all. I'm very happy to be here."
The film has Kristen playing a jealous assistant who tries to seduce her boss.
Rymir Satterwaite, the aspiring 21-year-old rapper who says he is Jay Z's son is determined to prove himself, his godmother told the New York Daily News.
Lillie Coley told the paper: "It will work out, you'll see. The miracle will still happen. We're up against a guy with all this money, and we're still here."
Satterwaite is reportedly short on cash, but has pledged to continue the paternity fight. His mother, Wanda Satterwaite, has claimed that a fling in high school with a then-unkown Shawn Carter produced her son Rymir. In 2010, she filed a paternity request in court papers, but Jay Z has not yet taken the test and the case remains unresolved.
Meanwhile, sources have told The National Enquirer that Beyonce will more than likely divorce Jay Z if Rymir is indeed his son.
On February 20th, Kanye West threw a major shot at his exAmber Rose. During an interview with NYC's Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, when asked if he ever calls his ex to tell her to stop talking about his wife Kim Kardashian, he said, "She's just soaking in the moment. Nobody feels compelled to do nothing. If Kim had first dated me when I wanted to be with her, there wouldn't be an Amber Rose." Charlamage: "Amber said Kim was sending naked pictures while yall were together." Kanye: "I wish. It's very hard for a woman to wanna be with someone that's with Amber Rose, so she wasn't sending nothing. I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim."
Last week, Amber called Kim fake and got into a Twitter war with Khloe Kardashian over her comments about Tyga and Kylie Jenner. Speaking of the two, in an unedited part of the interview, Kanye also confirmed that Tyga and Kylie Jenner were dating, when he was asked what he thought about them together, he said,"I think that . . . that's a good question right there. I think they're in love man. . . "
In the edited part, he added, "I think he got in early. I think he was smart. They're closer in age than a lot of relationships I know. I knew he was smart."
Kanye also revealed that there is no beef between Beyonce and Kim Kardashian, saying, "They love each other. They respect each other. When Beyoncé's working on her album, she has pictures of Kim on the wall because Kim represents powerful women. Kim be playing "7/11" for our daughter. They definitely respect each other. Maybe there's a LeBron James, Kobe element to it but, I ain't say that."

She tweeted to Kanye, "This is my moment to let the world know who u really are and the things you've done to me. after all these years I never snitched on u and I don't plan on starting now. We once loved each other so I won't do u like that. I'll leave that up to the Kartrashians to humiliate u when they're done with u."

Bodybuilders are known for their constant pursuit of protein, but how far is too far? Some bodybuilders are now seeking out breast milk as a dietary supplement, and many are buying it directly from lactating women. DailyMail reports a search on a bodybuilding forum turns up discussions of breast milk's ability to build music and eliminate fat. Many write that human milk is packed with Human Growth Hormone (HGH), high in protein, or call it "the ultimate anabolic food." Dr. Jacques Mortiz says these claims simply aren't true, adding, "There is nothing specific in breast milk that will cause adults to gain muscle mass." Pediatrician Dr. Lana Gagin discourages anyone from buying breast milk online noting that the way the milk is stored and processed is not always safe.
Wendy Williams wants Iggy Azalea's haters to leave her alone. Wendy defended the Australian rapper on her show earlier this week, saying,"I want you all to leave her alone and I know who the haters are, my people. Black people don't want this girl to win because she's white and also 'cause she's from Australia. See, we here in the country, we're very territorial about our rap music. So you come here, you have an accent, you're white, you hook up with T.I. -- one of our rap kings, you take over the radio. You can be heard on hip-hop stations, Top 40 stations . . . White people, black people, in other words, you're a hater 'cause she's crossed over and managed to make it."
Wendy added,"You're a hater 'cause she got herself what looks like a black girl's butt and a black boyfriend, Nick Young. You need to stop that hate and get a life, hater!"
As previously reported, Iggy announced that she is taking a break from Twitter. She tweeted, "Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it's shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite. Lol. I just want to have peace and relaxation time without a perve with long distance lens hiding out taking pictures, everyone deserves peace. I feel the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that. To become nasty because of the way I feel I am treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise I will try to keep smiling. But I also want to let my fans know I am taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining. My management will tweet/run my accounts from today onwards with updates etc unless any message is signed -IA. Love you all. Peace out! The Internet is the ugliest reflection of mankind there is."
It may seem like it takes a lot to impress the fairer sex, but a new study reveals you'd be wrong. Researchers videotaped and analyzed nearly 1,000 speed dates. Linguist Dan Jurafsky says, "Women in successful dates talked more about themselves. They used the word 'I' more. Men talked about the woman more. They used the word 'you' more." Women also liked being interrupted by the men. Jurafsky adds, "We thought interruption would usually be a sign of taking the floor and of being rude but all of these interruptions were sympathetic interruptions." In other words, the interruptions revealed the men were really listening. Among things women disliked most: men who were hesitant, and men who discussed work. In fact, the more a man talked about work, the worse the date went.

Love bacon? Love pizza? Little Caesars is hoping you'll drool over its newest experimental pizza featuring a bacon-wrapped crust. Beginning Feb. 23, customers who fork over $12 can chow down on a deep dish pizza, topped with pepperoni and bacon, with 3.5 feet of bacon wrapped around the crust. Officially dubbed the Bacon Wrapped Crust Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza, it replaces Little Caesars' soft pretzel crust variety. "Every time you take a bite out of the crust, you'll get bacon," CEO David Scrivano promises. At 450 calories per slice, "This is a more indulgent offering for a demographic that craves premium quality," he says.
The idea for the bacon-wrapped crust came from an employee in Little Caesars' research and development wing who ordered a bacon-wrapped filet at a restaurant. The pizza adaptation will be available nationwide until late April, CBS Detroit reports. A warning: it may not "travel" well, Scrivano says.
Earlier this week, Nestle USA announced it would remove all artificial flavors and colors (like Red 40 and Yellow 5) from its candy bars, effective by the end of 2015. Nestle is the first major candy manufacturer in the country to make such a pledge. Even though the new ingredients are more expensive, the price of candies will not increase.
The move was made in response to growing consensus that fewer artificial ingredients is more desirable for consumers when it comes to the packaged-food industry. In fact, a recent survey conducted by Nielsen found that over 60 percent of Americans feel that the absence of artificial ingredients is important to them when shopping for food.
NestléÂs next step will be removing artificial colors and flavors from its gummy and sour candies like SweeTARTS and Nerds. Those are tougher to transition because of the bright colors that are harder to duplicate naturally, a spokeswoman said.
A source told The National Enquirer that Beyonce will more than likely divorce Jay Z if Rymir Satterthwaite -- a 21-year-old aspiring rapper claiming to be his son, is indeed his. Earlier this week, reports came out that Rymir filed legal docs, claiming that Jay Z and his mom Wanda slept with the hip hop mogul in the early 90s. In a civil suit, Rymir and his legal guardian Lillie Coley said that Jay Z submitted fraudulent information to the court and has refused to take a paternity test.
A source said that if Rymir is indeed Jay's son, it may rock Jay Z and Beyonce's marriage. The source explained, "Beyonce is in pieces over what a divorce means to her. But if Jay Z has fathered a love child, I'm sure she wouldn't have any option. There's only so much anyone can take!"

Tom Meighan of the British rock band Kasabian has slammed One Direction. According to the UK's The Sun, he said, "They're **cking millionaires but they're five no-ones who won the lottery. They're massive, but they're a product, we're not. They're like shampoo. You buy it to put in your hair and wash it out, like the Spice Girls. They'll wanna be **cking arty and do something clever and they'll break up."
Oscar winner Mo'Nique claims she has been blackballed by Hollywood since landing the Best Supporting Actress award back in 2010. She reveals in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter that Precious director Lee Daniels recently explained to her why she wasn't scoring any roles after the win.
Mo'Nique explains, " I got a phone call from Lee Daniels...And he said to me, 'Mo'Nique, you've been blackballed.' I said, 'Why?' And he said, 'Because you didn't play the game.' I said, 'Well, what game is that?' He gave me no response." The actress goes on to admit that people who describe her as difficult, tactless, or tacky are probably right but adds, "That's why I have my beautiful husband because he's so full of tact. I'm just a girl from Baltimore. But being from that place, you learn not to let anybody take advantage of you."
Mo'Nique thanked the Academy in her acceptance speech "for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics."
The 47-year-old claims she was passed over for roles at Forest Whitaker's wife in Lee Daniels' The Butler, a role on Fox's Empire, and as Richard Pryor's grandmother in Lee's upcoming biopic.
Lee responded to her comments in a statement saying, "Mo'Nique is a creative force to be reckoned with. Her demands through Precious were not always in line with the campaign. This soured her relationship with the Hollywood community. I consider her a friend. I have and will always think of her for parts that we can collaborate on, however the consensus among the creative teams and powers thus far were to go another way with these roles."
ItÂs a common problem: You sit down for dinner and your jeans fit perfectly, but the more you eat the tighter they get. At the moment you have to manually undo the zip to feel comfortable, but in the future your zip may be able to adjust automatically. A researcher from MIT has created the Zipperbot that uses sensors to open and close the teeth in response to movement - such as an expanding waistline. In a video, the zipper is shown moving across a zip placed on a flat surface as well as on material wrapped around an arm Zipperbot uses optical sensors to accurately line-up the teeth so the zip doesnÂt become jammed or snag on the surrounding material. In theory, it could be used to loosen or tighten after a meal, or between standing up and sitting down.

Keira Knightley claims paparazzi photographers used to spit at and insult her just to get pictures earlier in her career. She discussed that side of celebrity with Benedict Cumberbatch during a TimesTalks Q&A on February 16th.
Keira said, "Having 20 to 30 men who you don't know on a 24-hour surveillance outside your house calling you a 'whore' every time you leave the door to try to get a reaction from you is quite a difficult thing to deal with. It was a time when there was a lot of money for pictures of women crying or of women in some state of undress. You'd walk down the street and you'd have men trying to get under your skirt to take pictures up your skirt and all the time calling you a 'whore' or all the time spitting at you or all the time trying to get a reaction from the guy you were with because it would make the price of that photograph quadruple."
The mom-to-be also explained how things have changed saying, "I think there's a certain point where you get married, you get pregnant and they're like, 'Hey, she's not going out and getting drunk.' I think there is a level that you grow out of it."
Keira was around 18 when she rose to fame co-starring in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Hundreds of teenagers rushed a movie theater that refused to sell them tickets to 50 Shades of Grey, forcing the Florida mall where the theater resides to changes its policy. Police said hundreds of teens swarmed around the AMC theater at the West Oaks Mall and before the doors to the theater screening the wildly popular film could be locked, about 100 teenagers alledgedly made it inside.
The mall said that minors under the age of 17 are now no longer permitted on mall property after 9 P.M. without being accompanied by an adult. Ocoee police lieutenant Mike Bryant said, "It wasn't like, we're all going to the movie theater to storm the theater. It's, we're going to the theater, and there was a lack of control, so kids took advantage." According to police two kids were arrested, one on charges of battery and resisting arrest and the other on drug charges.
Christina Aguilera treated some of her fans to Starbucks coffee Monday night (February 16th). The singer announced on her Twitter that she was at 30 Rock (30 Rockefeller Plaza) buying and signing coffees for an hour. She said, "Coffee on me for the next hour! Head to 30 Rock! XoXtina."
Fans shared their free cups of coffee and photos with Christina on social media. One fan captioned their photo on Twitter and said, "Got my Starbucks cup signed by @xtina and coffee here is on her for the next hour!" Another fan said, "I just ran, literally, to 30 Rock for @xtina. All that remained was this lipstick stained cup."
If you head to the grocery store before a big storm you'll notice bread, milk and toilet paper are the items that seem to sell out first. But why? Accuweather.com says it all started way back in 1950 after a winter storm dumped nearly three feet of snow on Pittsburgh. This apparently lead to a milk shortage, and also lead to some markets rationing bread. But since these items are perishable, why does the trend continue? Psychotherapist Lisa Brateman explains, saying, "The thought to get milk before a storm is followed by the action or compulsion to go out and stockpile it. In one way or another, we spend a lot of time and energy trying to feel in control, and buying things you might throw out still gives the person a sense of control in an uncontrollable situation." In other words, buying non-perishable items is a psychological admission that you've surrendered to waiting out the storm and its aftermath, while buying perishables expresses optimism.
Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson is apparently not interested in directing the next two movies because of her issues with author E.L. James. A source told UK's The Sun, "Sam won't be back for the Fifty Shades sequels. She wants out and Universal knows that's the right decision. Her relationship with Erika has become absolutely toxic -- they despise each other and blame each other for the problems with the film." Sam recently revealed in an interview that most of their arguments had to do with keeping the sex scenes in the movie faithful to the book.
Valentine's Day: That magical time in a girl's young life when her fragile self worth is defined by the number of pink and red scraps of paper passed their way in school. NBC has launched a new Saturday Night Live app. The app includes over 300 hours of video from the show's 40 seasons. It is currently available through iTunes and an Android version is currently being developed. The network will be airing the show's 40th anniversary celebration this weekend.
It may sound morbid, but do you know what you'd want done with your Facebook account after you die? The social network is now allowing you to decide. It's allowing what it calls a "legacy contact" to be assigned to your account posthumously. Don't worry, you can also choose to have you presence deleted entirely. Previously, Facebook automatically froze the accounts of deceased members it learned had died, angering some heirs who wanted to edit the deceased's online presence. Facebook legacy contacts will be able to manage accounts in a way that can turn the deceased person's Facebook page into a kind of digital gravestone. The new options were rolled out in the U.S. February 12th.
The music you listen to can say a lot about your emotional state, that's the logic behind Pandora linking the music customers listen to to their relationship status. They discovered those who live in Hawaii, Washington, California, Utah, and Washtingon D.C. listened to the most "Love Sick" and "Breakup Songs" stations on Pandora. D.C. was the most "lovesick" state in the whole country, while Utah was the sappiest. The top love song people in all states jam to is Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," but the top genre people turn to for love songs is R&B.
You know what they say about eating oysters, but are the claims that certain foods are aphrodisiacs true? Rick Moonen, a prominent seafood chef says, "The oyster has a lot of zinc in it, and zinc is very good for a man's prostate. It adds lead to the pencil, so to speak." Damon McCune, coordinator of the UNLV Nutrition Center, says he doesn't buy the story on most aphrodisiacs,"There's very little legitimate science to back up conclusively that [most] will help. That said, there are some that will stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain. Stuff like dark chocolate."
However if you really want to amp up your partner's desire, you should hit the gym together. McCune says exercise is the one thing we actually have "some evidence to support having an impact on treating erectile dysfunction and increasing sexual activity and performance."

Miley Cyrus has raised a few eyebrows after bashing celebs who negatively influence young girls. Miley spoke on negative celebrity influences, saying, "Everyone is getting Instagram famous, purely because of what they're wearing, what they look like. You get more likes if your as* looks big, or your t*tties…it's crazy. And 15-year-old girls are looking at these girls and thinking that's what they're supposed to look like, and that isn't life. People are chasing something that doesn't exist, a lot of girls."
She also spoke on being a role model. Miley said, "I think being a role model is about how you are when you're not being [a certain way] for your fans. Be a role model because you're a good person, and because you're a good person you should be a role model. Don't be a good person because you think you're a role model."
Miley's risque short film called Tongue Tied was recently removed from New York City's Porn Festival. Reports claimed that Miley never submitted the bondage-themed film, nor was it supposed to be entered in the festival, however other reports are saying the opposite. The clip shows Miley throughout her "Bangerz" tour "scantily dressed" and tied to a chair with her nipples covered with tape.

Crowd-funding is being used for many things, but hereÂs a new wrinkle: Parents are now using crowd funding to pay for kids' birthday parties. The number of birthday-related campaigns within the "Celebrations & Special Events" category on GoFundMe has "skyrocketed," according to a site official. Since the company launch in 2010, nearly $1 million has been raised for birthday celebrations from more than 20,000 donors. There was a 330 percent increase in donation volume for birthday campaigns between 2013 and 2014. ÂSocial media has an influence," said blogger Rebecca Michals. "Some moms see photos of their friends giving their children amazing birthdays and holidays and just want that for their own child. While itÂs not a sure thing that donations will come rolling in, moms feel that it canÂt hurt to try.Â

New Hampshire police put out a gag saying they have issued an arrest warrant for Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, because he failed to disclose the extent of this year's winter. The Merrimack Police wrote on Facebook, "We know we are a day early, however we here at Merrimack Police felt compelled to let the public know that there is a warrant for Punxsutawney Phil! We have received several complaints from the public that this little vamint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty. He told several people that winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow! If you see him, do not approach him as he is armed and dangerous. Call Merrimack Police, we will certainly take him into custody!"
Are you sure you know what your sweetie wants for Valentine's Day? Branding agency Arc asked both sexes about the gift they'd most like to receive for Valentine's Day. They found that men usually spend $137 on gifts and outings to celebrate the holiday, while women only spend about $86.
Additionally men were four times as likely as women to give a gift out of obligation. A full ten percent of men say they enjoy the holiday slightly more than getting a tooth pulled, while about 20 percent of women say they truly enjoy the day. The worst thing you can give a man for Valentine's Day: a stuffed animal, and gentlemen, do not give your lady a "home décor" related present.
Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in Bruce Jenner's car accident last weekend. Law enforcement officials confirmed to TMZ that he passed his field sobriety test with flying colors. Once you post something on Facebook do you constantly check back to see if you're getting "Likes" or comments? If so, a new study reveals you're probably insecure in your relationships and require attention from others in order to feel better. About 600 people were surveyed about how they act in close relationships as well as their Facebook habits. Two types of Facebook users emerged: those with high attachment anxiety and those who are more extraverted.
Those with attachment anxiety worry that other people don't love them as much as they want to be loved and thus reported more "feedback seeking" behaviors on social media. These people reported "feeling much better about themselves when they get a lot of comments, likes and other feedback on their posts and worse about themselves when their Facebook activity generates little attention." Study leader Dr. Joshua Hart adds, "These studies are consistent with many people's intuitions that some individuals use Facebook to fulfill emotional and relationship needs that are unmet in the 'real' world."
Facebook may have more of an influence on you than you think. A new study reveals users of the social network who like, share, or comment on alcohol-related pages or posts are more likely to consider drinking alcohol. Over 400 study participants were asked about their feelings after they encountered and responded to alcohol-related Facebook items. Study leader Saleem Alhabash says, "What we found is if people actually feel so engaged with the message and want to do something about it-- like, share or comment-- that it makes the likelihood of them thinking about drinking even greater." Additionally, if an alcohol-related status was paired with an anti-drinking message, the person viewing it was more likely to consider drinking.
Nick Jonas revealed on Twitter on February 10th that he is hosting Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards. Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, appears in the new issue of Complex magazine talking about the singer's bad behavior. He said, "Look, I'm not going to focus on anything specific, but the hardest part is being a little bit older than your clients, and their actions aren't necessarily actions you'd take. Sometimes it's frustrating because you think, 'I could've avoided that' or 'I could've helped you get through that,' but then you realize that you are the person you are because you went through it, and they need the opportunity to go through it too. And if they do, you're just supposed to be there to help them rise. I'm not interested in the mistakes that people make. I'm interested in how they react to them. That's what defines us as adults. Being young, like Ariana Grande and Justin are, they will have opportunities to fall, and they will be defined by how they rise."
It's been a while since Meghan Trainor kissed a guy. Meghan opened up to Seventeen magazine about putting her dreams before love and said, "I knew my life would be complicated if my dreams of becoming a success in music came true. And I knew I'd have to work hard to achieve those dreams, and that they'd have to take a front seat in my life. So even though I went cray in high school, now I haven't kissed a boy in forever. I keep telling myself that the right guy is going to be worth the wait."
She also spoke on developing body confidence through her career, saying, "I never thought I'd be a pop star. I don't look like Rihanna. [Then] after the video for 'All About That Bass' came out…when I was signing autographs, this girl came up to me bawling and said, 'You make me feel pretty again. Thank you.' It really resonated with me that this girl was so gorgeous, and she didn't even know it. It's a mental thing. Just recently I was thinking, 'I'm confident now, and I look good,' and that's because I've started saying those words out loud more."
The March issue of Seventeen magazine featuring Meghan on the cover hits stands on February 17th.

ÂMy wife and I used to have conversations about my weight an almost daily basis. The fact is though that she was nagging all wrong. Women like to think that they're the Jedi Knights of husbandly persuasion but men know how to nag men best.
The mistake women make is couching their concern in niceness and thinking that makes it more palatable. Men like to hear it straight. Take the example of chef Jamie Brooks whose incredible weight loss was motivated by his mates texting him on a daily basis calling him 'a fat f***' and telling him that he'll 'be dead by 40' if he doesn't cool it. His friends kept up that campaign for an incredible six weeks, after which time Brooks said that it finally made him face up to his weight issues. That is quality man-on-man nagging. Compare that to the softly-softly suggestions that women prefer. In no way am I saying that you should subject you other half to a four-letter text tirade; from a woman to a man, a different strategy is needed.

Katy Perry's Super Bowl sharks have been revealed in a SportsCenter commercial. Once the sharks got inside, they took off their costumes and revealed themselves to be ESPN anchors John Anderson and Bram Weinstein.

Rosie O'Donnell posted a YouTube video on February 9th to explain why she didn't address her exit from The View on the show that day. She said, "Everybody wanted me to talk about it. I didn't want to talk about it. I spoke about it during the press line on Friday night, I spoke about all the reasons, so you can Google. The truth is, I had a heart attack two years ago, and stress is very bad for heart attack survivors...I'm minimizing my stress by leaving The View. And the stress that I'm having at home is not as easily remedied. It's hard. Marriage is complicated, and I've got five kids, four of them are teenagers, and there's lots of stuff going on at home, and there's lots of stuff going on at work, and the only thing I can really control is the work, by leaving. I can turn that volume down, all the way to zero, and just focus on what I need to focus on, which is my health and my family."
Rosie added, "It was no one's fault but mine that we didn't discuss it today. We're probably not going to discuss it tomorrow. My last show is Thursday, and then I'll be watching from home."

A Samsung spokesperson tells Daily Mail, "Samsung takes consumer privacy very seriously. In all of our Smart TVs, and data gathering or their use is carried out with utmost transparency and we provide meaningful options for consumers to freely choose to opt out of a service."
When given the chance would you stay and fight or run? If we're anything like bugs, a new study shows it's ok to run, as long as you do so consistently. Researchers specifically looked at aphids as they were approached by ladybug predators. Some aphids dropped from the plants to the ground to escape, while others held their ground to tough it out. Both groups faired better than aphids that performed a mix of the two behaviors. Study author Sasha Dall adds, "We found that when the consequences are dire, it is important for the aphid to commit to a lifestyle, whether it is to run away or to stay put."

Who doesn't love chocolate? Many people are addicted to the stuff, but now a Belgian chocolatier says we've been "experiencing" chocolate all wrong. Dominique Persoone says we should really be snorting cocoa to get the full effect. Back in 2007 Persoone invented a chocolate sniffing device modeled after old-fashioned Victorian snuff shooters that makes it possible for the user to inhale cocoa powder. In the last eight years, Persoone has sold some 25 thousand of the chocolate shooters.
A typical "hit" consists of Dominican Republic or Peruvian cocoa powder with unique flavorings like mint, ginger or raspberry. However, emergency physician Dr. Robert Glatter warns, "Inhalation of cocoa or herbal components such as mint or ginger could lead to increase mucous production, nasal congestion, as well as coughing and wheezing." Persoone maintains that the practice is safe. Would you ever consider getting your chocolate fix by snorting cocoa powder?
A New York mother has been accused of threatening to bomb her daughter's school after her child failed a state exam. But Karen Shearon says she "never made such a phone call," and pleaded not guilty to the charge. School officials insist that Shearon, after hearing her daughter failed the test, told a guidance counselor at Susan Wagner High School in Staten Island that she was "going to blow up the school," according to CBS New York. Shearen has been arrested and has accused school officials of "harassing" her children and showing up at her home at 8 P.M. to confront her about her alleged threat.
Comedy legend Mel Brooks is pumping some fresh Perri-air into rumors of a sequel for "Spaceballs," his beloved 1987 "Star Wars" spoof.
Speaking last week, the 88-year-old director said now was the perfect time to revisit the spoof, given the upcoming reboot of the "Star Wars" franchise. He even had a title ready to go: "Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money" Â a reference to a joke in the first film.
"If I did a movie that came out right after 'Star Wars' comes out, you know, maybe a couple of months later ... I'd have a big weekend, you know, no matter what," Brooks said, according to E! Online. He admitted, though, that rounding up the original cast would be a Mega Maid-sized task. Both John Candy, who played hero sidekick Barf, and Joan Rivers, who voiced Dot Matrix, have passed away, while comic actor Rick Moranis, who portrayed villain Dark Helmet, has retired from acting.
Dakota Johnson is currently single but she has hope about finding the "perfect love." The Fifty Shades of Grey star recently chatted with UK's Telegraph about her love life and her vision for the future.
The 25-year-old explains, "My rescue dog Zeppelin is my main man. I don't have a lot of time for a relationship. I'm too busy pretending and then I go home and there's no one. I believe in perfect love but sometimes I'm really cynical about it." Dakota continues, "In 20 years' time I will be on my ranch somewhere riding my horse. I'm going to have a bunch of kids by then. Well, at least one..."
She was linked to Welsh musician Matthew Hitt in the fall but made no mention of him in the interview.
Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore nabbed the top acting prizes at Sunday's February 8th British Academy Film Awards in London. Both actors previously won SAG and Golden Globe trophies for their work. The BAFTA for Best Film went to Boyhood.
Gun laws are a touchy subject in the U.S., and now T-shirt maker Nitelife is cashing in on the controversy. The company has created an "open carry T-shirt" line, and one shirt features an image of a gun holstered under the arm. The gun images on the shirts are so realistic that the Nitelife website warns, "At a short distance the gun LOOKS REAL! Law Enforcement Officers may overreact to YOUR shirt. Be responsible. Obey all orders... Do NOT reach towards the holster and gun! Your actions could get you injured or even killed!" Do you think those who wear these shirts in public just like the shirt design or are trying to make a political statement?
We're a society obsessed with finding "the one" but evolutionary scientists say we'd be better off settling for whoever comes along first. The researchers explain that most of us have evolved so that we take the safe bet when the stakes are high, and one of those times is when debating to mate or not. Early humans were faced with the challenge of deciding if they could find a better mate, or risk never mating at all. Researchers used a computerl model to trace risk-taking behaviors through thousands of generations. Study leader, Professor Chris Adami says, "Settling early for the sure bet gives you an evolutionary advantage, if living in a small group." Adami notes, "Evolution creates diversity in our acceptance of risk, so you see some people who are more likely to take bigger risks than others. We see the same phenomenon in our simulations."

Kanye West may have held his tongue after storming the stage during Beck's Grammy win on February 8th for Album of the Year but he did not hold anything back after show. He told E! News, "I don't know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. 'Flawless,' Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it. Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration and we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place. Then they do this whole promotional event, they'll run the music over somebody's speech, the artist, because they want commercial advertising. Like, no, we not playing with them no more. By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I'm not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight. But you all know what it meant when 'Ye walks on the stage."
UPDATE: Kanye clears up his comments
Kanye West has clarified his statements about Beck winning the Grammy for Album of the Year over Beyonce. As previously reported, during an interview with E! after the Grammys, Kanye said about the snub, "Stop playing with us. We ain't fin to play with them no more. 'Flawless,' Beyonce video. And Beck needs to respect artistry and should have given his award to Beyonce. And at this point, we're tired of it. Because what happens is, when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental things in music, you're disrespectful to inspiration."
He added,"We as musicians have to inspire people who go to work everyday and they listen to Beyonce album and they feel like it takes them to another place. And they do this whole promotional event, like they run the music over somebody's speech because they want a commercial advertising. No! We are not playing anymore. And, I got my wife, my daughter and I got my clothing line, so I'm not fin to do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight. But y'all know what it meant when Ye walked on that stage."
TMZ caught up with Ye and Kim as they arrived into JFK on February 9th. When asked if he was implying that Beck wasn't a real artist, he said, "Nah, I wasn't saying Beck, I said the Grammys. Beck know that Beyonce should have won. He knows that. . . . Come on, man, I love Beck, but he didn't have the album of the year."

Pope Francis angered child abuse activists this week when he suggested it was ok for parents to discipline a disobedient child with a smack Âif dignity was maintained.Â
The comments, apparently in support of corporal punishment, fly in the face of consistent research thatÂs found spanking has essentially no positive effect on children and may actually harm them in the long run.
Still, as it turns out, spanking isnÂt all that controversial for most parents in the U.S., black or white, high school dropouts or college graduates. More than three quarters of men and 65% of women in the United States say they support giving children the occasional Âgood, hard spanking.Â
Don't have tickets to the Super Bowl? Simple: Just sneak in like Paul McEvoy and Richard Whelan of Ireland did Sunday. The duo couldn't afford tickets on the secondary market around University of Phoenix Stadium, even after appearing on NFL Network." Our game plan was to be super confident," Whelan told RTE Radio. "We just thought if we pretend we belong there, nobody will question us."
After sneaking behind one layer of security after another, the duo walked in behind a group of first-aid workers, walked straight up to the front door and hid in behind them before one last push into the stadium. "We walked past another security guard that just wasn't paying attention, and (then) we could see the field."
The pair ended up seat-hopping for the first part of the game, using people's seats as they went to the restroom or to concessions before finding seats in the fourth row (worth $25,000 each, according to azcentral.com). "It was a good day of hustling," Richard said. "What seemed like impossible came true.Â
Bruce Jenner was involved in a car accident over the weekend which resulted in the death of one person involved. There have been conflicting reports about what caused Bruce's car to crash into a Lexus which sent that car into oncoming traffic where it collided with a Hummer.
Early reports claimed that Jenner was attempting to flee the paparazzi but law enforcement officials have found that not to be true. According to TMZ, cops are trying to acquire a warrant to look into whether he was texting while driving. The website has acquired photographs of the accident which show Bruce smoking a cigarette behind the wheel but no evidence that he was sending a text at the time.
The reality star could face vehicular manslaughter charges if it is proven that he was using his phone while driving.
It is also believed that a Prius two cars in front of Bruce's Escalade stopped short and caused the chain of events that led to the accident.
Police are reportedly investigated Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend Nick Gordon for possible foul play. According to TMZ, law enforcement sources say that Bobbi Kristina had "certain injuries that have piqued their interest. The nature of the injuries are not known. Several sources told the site that there is a history of violence between Bobbi and Nick. Cops are looking into a possible altercation that occurred more than an hour before Bobbi Kristina was found in the bathtub.
Gordon's friend Max Lomas, the same guy who found Bobbi in the tub, arrived at the home at around 9 am on January 31st. He hung out with Nick but didn't see Bobbi Kristina and was told that she was in the bedroom. Nick walked off and Max said that he didn't pay attention to where he went. The cable guy showed up after 10 am and said that Max let him in, and Nick was nowhere to been seen. The cable guys said that he needed access to the bedroom, so Max let him in and discovered Bobbi Kristina in he tub. He screamed for Nick, who then ran in and administered CPR.
Max also claimed that Nick allegedly cleaned up the home and removed blood stains. Cops have interviewed Max and Nick and they want to talk to Max again, but Max's lawyer has insisted on immunity before he spoke again -- and as of Friday, February 6th, he hadn't received immunity or talked to cops.

Lance Bass has revealed that Perez Hilton "bullied" him into coming out of the closet. Lance told the UK's Attitude magazine, "Two years before I came out I was REALLY bullied on the internet by bloggers, that's when Perez Hilton just started and was just really malicious against me. So, because of the bloggers like him hounding me, all the other magazines started calling me and saying, 'Look, we know you're gay, you can write the story with or without us, but we have to write it.' I decided to go with People and I think they did a great job. I had 24 hours to decide if I was going to come out or not, and within 24 hours it was on the stands."
The former 'N SYNC member also admitted that he considered coming out while he was in the group, but he felt pressured not to. Lance continued, "I had a lot of pressures on me at that point. Not only was I keeping the secret from my family, but I also had this career with four of my best friends. I knew, in the late 1990s/early 2000s, that if I came out, people would hate 'N SYNC, and that would be the end of our career. There was no way I was going to do that to my four best friends, so, as long as I was with them, I was asexual."
He added, "I wasn't with a girl, I wasn't with a guy, I just focused on work, and it kept me out of trouble. It wasn't until I realized there wasn't going to be another 'N SYNC album that I felt ready! I wasn't even that sad about the end of 'N SYNC as I felt that I'd actually get to be myself from then on. That's when I started finding myself and started dating guys – it was great."
NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams said that he will take a break from anchoring the broadcast for "the next several days." His announcement comes after he clarified this week that he misremembered details in a 2003 reporting mission to Iraq. Marketing food products is highly competitive, and every company is looking for an edge. Increasingly, companies are finding that edge by offering what's being called "gendered food."
In a TV ad for Quaker oatmeal, the campaign was clearly aimed at women, promoting the fact that the product has added vitamins and minerals such as folic acid and calcium. It's just one of many products on store shelves these days directed at one sex.
A recent entry into the Canadian market is from Stonemill Bakehouse, a Toronto-based bakery that sells products in several provinces. It released "his and her" breads last month. Within days of the product release, the company's marketing effort was lambasted by experts and consumers as condescending and flat-out stupid. A headline in the Hamilton Spectator read a sarcastic, "Decisions decisions  thank goodness for his and her bread!" The Huffington Post called it "the bread product you didn't know was necessary."â
What is it about middle age that drives men and women to want to own sleek sports cars or motorcycles? A survey of 1,005 U.S. middle-aged adults reveals 25 percent of people said they were likely to purchase "a car associated with a midlife crisis." Men were more likely (30%) to say they were "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to buy a midlife crisis vehicle, while just 21% of women said the same. Twenty percent of all respondents said they'd choose a black vehicle-- just 17 percent said they'd choose a red one. So why do you think middle age people purchase showy vehicles? Are they trying to compensate for shortcoming or just recapturing their youth?
As conflicting reports continue to be released about Bobbi Kristina's condition, Bobby Brown has set the record straight. Yesterday (February 5th), People reported that the family had gathered at the hospital to say their final goodbyes to Bobbi.
Yesterday, on his 46th birthday, the New Edition singer told The Atlanta Journal Constitution in a statement that those reports are not true, saying, "If we issued a statement every time the media published a false report regarding this matter, that's all we would be doing 24 hours a day. This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place."
Bobby also denied reports that the family has pulled the plug, telling Access Hollywood yesterday, "She's good. We're praying." He added that the reports that Bobbi was off the ventilator is a "flat out lie."
Meanwhile, reports say that Bobbi's grandmother Cissy Houston visited her for the first time yesterday (February 5th).
Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious in a bath tub on January 31st.
MORE DETAILS ON WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE BOBBI WAS FOUND UNCONSCIOUS
The details on what exactly happened on the morning of January 31st are slowly coming in. According to E! Online, sources say thatNick Gordon's friend Max Lomas found Bobbi and then he called for Nick. Lomas' attorneyAshleigh Merchant revealed that a visit from an Xfinity Cable technician who prompted the guys to look for Bobbi in the house. Lomas' girlfriend was also at the home at the time.
Merchant added that Nick "was actually the one who answered the door for the cable man, and he was showing the cable man around. Lomas "says that he knocked on her door and he didn't get an answer, so he went in and checked on her to see how she was doing. He's actually the one that found her, and he called for Nick, screamed for Nick, and then he immediately called 911."
A transcript of police scanner activity showed that a dispatcher said, "21-year-old female in the bathtub face down, PD is en route...There's CPR in progress."
Merchent continued, "It seems like it might've been 10 or 15 minutes that she must have been alone... but we don't know at what point she actually ended up in the tub during that time." Merchant said that her client Lomas has been fully cooperative with cops and has not been named as a suspect.

If you can't kick a cold by drinking tea or soup, it may be time to try whiskey. More specifically, a hot toddy may be just what the doctor ordered. The traditional cocktail is made with whiskey, honey, lemon juice and hot water and is known to clear the sinuses as well as ease aches and pains. Dr. William Schaffner, Vanderbilt University Medical Center chair of preventative medicine tells ABC News the whiskey is responsible for the cocktail's magical effects, saying, "The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection." Still, you'll want to stick to just to just one drink, as more than that will dehydrate you and make you feel worse.
Ryan Reynolds believes the script was the problem with his Green Lantern movie. He said during a recent interview with Yahoo, "When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn't exist. I'm not complaining about it -- it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that's what's different on this one." His comment about "this one" refers to his upcoming role as Deadpool in a spinoff from his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Men these days just canÂt catch a break. From commercials for feminine hygiene products to movies about princesses, American boys find themselves left out of the cultural conversation, their self-esteem shredded by their lack of representation in movies and on TV. ThatÂs what Fox News host Steve Doocy thinks anyway, as he tellingly revealed in an interview with Penny Nance, CEO of the Christian womenÂs group Concerned Women for America.
In the interview, Doocy asked a leading question about Frozen depicting men as Âevil and cold and bumblers, to which Nance replied, ÂHollywood in general has often sent a message that men are superfluous, that theyÂre stupid, that theyÂre in the way and if they contribute anything to the family, itÂs a paycheck. The emphasis on positive female role models is empowering girls at their male siblings expense, Nance argued. (God forbid a boy have a female role model.) To which Doocy replied, in the most beautifully oblivious statement to be captured on Fox News for at least the next few hours:
ÂIt would be nice for Hollywood to have more male figures in those kind of movies as heroes.Â

Selfie sitcks are already banned at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts; New York's Museum of Modern Art; Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum; Dia: Beacon Museum; and in the indoor galleries at California's Getty Center and Getty Villa. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is also considering a ban. Chief digital officer at the Met museum, Sree Sreenivasan says, "I am pro-selfie, just not pro selfie-stick. So just be aware, many museums that embrace photography and even celebrated museum selfie day on January 21st say that selfie sticks are just not allowed.

An Atlanta barber is now offering haircuts to children who misbehave. The cut, named the "Benjamin Button Special" is designed to make kids look like old men with a shaved head and the sides and back left in place to resemble a balding man. Russell Fredrick, co-owner of the A-1 Kutz barber shop, said the first kid to get the cut was his 12-year-old son, whose failing grades "dramatically skyrocketed" after getting the cut. So Fredrick decided to start offering it as a free-of-charge option for parents seeking unconventional disciplinary measures for unruly children.
You probably don't really associate the savory flavor of steak with cocktails, but maybe you should. Some U.S. bars are now trying to sell savory cocktails on their menus. For example a bar in New York City kicks up its Bloody Mary with the addition of beef broth, while a bar in Dallas offers the "Pho-Kin Champ," made with wheat vodka, oloroso sherry, lime juice and beef broth infused with roasted ginger and other spices.
The history of meat in cocktails goes all the way back to 1950s with a shot called the bullshot. It was basically like a bloody mary, minus the tomato juice, plus beef broth. The drink never caught on back then, but that doesn't mean meat cocktails can't make it today. Anthony Caporale, director of beverage studies at the Institute of Culinary Education adds, "You don't really see anything outside the plant world in beverage alcohol. Most people don't think of proteins in the liquid form, but one of the five primary flavor receptors on the tongue is umami, which is the taste of savory..."

No matter how happy you are in your relationship, most Americans say that most men would jump at the chance to have a risk-free one-night stand. The poll, conducted by Monmouth University, surveyed more than 1,000 Americans about their romantic relationships in advance of ValentineÂs Day. While the overwhelming majority of those in relationships said they were extremely satisfied with their current relationship (58%) and many said they were very satisfied (30%), a full 7-in-10 (or 71%) of those say that most men would jump at the chance of a one-night stand if they had the opportunity and there was absolutely no chance of getting caught. On the other hand, fewer than half (45%) believe women would do the same.
ÂThough a lot of relationship research shows that men and women are much more similar than different, menÂs greater likelihood of accepting a seemingly consequence-free sexual encounter is consistent with research showing that men are higher in sociosexuality, which means they are more easily able to differentiate between sex and love, explains Dr. Lewandowski, a professor and chair of psychology at Monmouth University who researches romantic relationships.
British lawmakers voted February 3rd to approve legislation that would make the U.K. the first country in the world to allow the creation of "three-parent babies," using DNA from three people. The procedure is intended to prevent mitochondrial diseases, which are inherited from the mother's mitochondrial DNA. The in vitro fertilization technique involves transferring nuclear genetic material from a mother's egg or embryo into a donor egg or embryo that's had its nuclear DNA removed.
The new embryo will have nuclear DNA from the father and mother, as well as healthy mitochondrial DNA from the donor. The amount of DNA from the donor, however, will be much less than from the parents. There are ethical objections to the procedure, however, including from people who are worried about a future of "designer babies."

A new biography about Prince Charles called Charles: Heart of a King alleges that he had a case of cold feet. According to author Catherine Mayer, the royal reportedly told his "inner circle" that he wanted to call off their nuptials on the night before the wedding. The palace did not address that claim specifically but responded to the book in a statement saying, "We would just point out that Catherine Mayer's book is not authorized or official, and that whilst writing it Catherine did not have any more access to The Prince than any other journalist."
Adapting Fifty Shades of Grey to the big screen wasn't exactly a cakewalk for director Sam Taylor-Johnson. She opened up about her experience to Porter magazine and explained her tension with the book's author, E.L. James.
Sam said, "It was difficult, I'm not going to lie. We definitely fought, but they were creative fights, and we would resolve them. We would have proper on-set 'barneys,' and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on-screen, but, you know, we got there." She added, "It's a Hollywood movie, but it's going to be extreme for that world. It's going to be pretty sexually explicit because, let's face it, we know what this book is about. It's a sexual journey."Â
The director revealed that some of their arguing was over the scenes that involved whips and bondage.
It has been reported that 20 minutes of the film's 100-minute run time are sex scenes.
The quirkiest part of this story is not that a Wichita Falls, Texas, man attempted to pay a $600 property tax bill with $1 bills. It's that said bills were reportedly folded in a way that "required tax office personnel approximately six minutes to unfold each bill." (Quick math: that's roughly 36,000 minutes, or 60 hours, of unfolding.) Timothy Andrew Norris, 27, was asked to leave the tax office on Jan. 28 by the Wichita County Tax Assessor Collector Tommy Smyth, who claimed Norris was interfering with the office's efficiency. He refused, and allegedly resisted arrest; the Times Record News reports Smyth and a deputy who was on hand had to force Norris to the ground. His bail was nearly as much as his bill: $500.

An article in yesterdayÂs New York Times argues that parents should tell children exactly how much they earn. It suggests that you begin to initiate them when theyÂre as young as 5 or 6, building their knowledge slowly and giving them the real answer while theyÂre still teenagers. Handle it right, says the Times, and it will be one of the most valuable lessons of their childhood.
HereÂs the bigger problem this helps to solve: Money is a source of mystery to children. And adults tend to do a miserable job of answering their questions. Others want to protect their children from a topic many of us find stressful or baffling. But shielding children from the realities of everyday financial life makes little sense anymore, given the responsibilities their generation will face, starting with the outsize college tuitions. ÂItÂs dangerous, like not telling them about how their bodies are going to change during puberty, said Amanda Rose Adams, a mother of two in Fort Collins, Colo. But financial transparency comes only with readiness. So donÂt throw your tax returns at them right away.
Girl Scout cookies are a delicious treat you can only get a certain times of year, and the Girl Scouts are now recognizing their power. Apparently Girl Scout councils in some cities are charging more for their cookies their year. For example, councils in San Diego, Orange County and Greater Los Angeles are hiking the prices of cookies from $4 to $5 a box after they saw the San Francisco council do so. The New York council has decided to keep the precious cookies at $4 a box, while some councils in the South are upping the cost of a box from $3.50 to $4 a box. The Orange County Girl Scout council points out that $5 a box is still a bargain, considering the cookies would cost $5.84 a box if prices had advanced apace with inflation.
Taylor Swift posted a note to her Tumblr page on February 2nd to explain why she isn't performing at the Grammy's next weekend. She wrote, "A lot of you have been asking about the Grammys this week and I just wanted to give you an update. I'm really excited to be nominated for 3 Grammys this year and even more excited that I'll be there having a dance party/rage fest in the audience.
I will also be presenting the award for Best New Artist. Since my whole life is wrapped up and entangled in the planning of The 1989 World Tour right now, I'm not going to be performing on the Grammys this year. I need this time to focus only on the tour. I hope I'll see you out there at one of the stadiums this summer having a rage fest of your own!" Taylor's tour kicks off in Louisiana in May.
Lindsay Lohan and her motherDina are suing Fox News for stating on-air that they did cocaine together. They have filed a lawsuit against the network, Sean Hannity, and Michelle Fields for the comment made on Hannity on February 4th, 2014. According to E! News, the complaint states that they sent a letter shortly after the episode demanding a retraction and that the content be removed from the website. Fox did run a statement that the comment wasn't verified but never took down the clip which allowed it to circulate around the web.
The mother and daughter are seeking compensatory and punitive damages over the severe mental and emotional distress they suffered, and continue to suffer, as a result of the comment. The Lohans are also arguing that it caused them "economic loss, including loss of income, entertainment and acting contracts, present and future diminished income and economic opportunities."

Gluten-free people want NBC to pull their NASCAR ad which features Nick Offerman talking about how America has gone soft and saying, "When our idea of danger is eating gluten, there's trouble afoot." The ad debuted last week but was featured heavily during the Super Bowl.
A man who calls himself "Gluten Dude" started a petition requesting the commercial be removed and has already gathered nearly 18,000 signatures. The petition states, "NBC is running a Super Bowl ad that makes fun of those who are gluten-free. It implies that we're soft...we're weak...we're part of America's problem. When all we're trying to do is manage our disease. Celiac can be a true pain. The media is not helping and this petition is get NBC to see the light of day. I think about all of the gluten-free children getting bullied for being "different", when all they want to do is feel better and fit in. I think about all of the people who have gotten sick at restaurants because the kitchen and/or the staff do not take us seriously. I think about all of those walking around undiagnosed and suffering because they only listen to what is in the media. I think about all of the people in the past who have died prematurely when going gluten-free MAY have been their saving grace. This petition is for them."
NBC had reportedly responded to his request by saying they would edit the commercial to take out the gluten reference but it could still be heard in the version that ran throughout Sunday's game.
The oldest is smart, neat and well behaved in school. The middle child is a sloppy, disheveled mess and the youngest a great performer, a ham, an innovator. A team of British researchers working for YouGov set out to determine whether some of these birth order stereotypes ring true and found that thereÂs basis to the often-speculated differences between first and last-born: The most significant difference is in feeling the burden of responsibility  most (54%) first-borns say they are more responsible than their siblings, compared to 31% of last-borns.
Younger siblings, on the other hand, are more likely to say they are funnier (46% compared to 36% of elder siblings), more easy going and more relaxed. A number of studies have looked at birth order. Research from 2013 confirmed what many prior studies revealed  first-borns tend to have higher IQs, perform better in school and are all-around more accomplished than their younger siblings.

Ombre hair is out, and pixelated hair is in. It's hard to describe, the best way to explain it-- pixel style graphics being colored into your locks. The look was pioneered in Spain by three colorists and is now making big waves on social media. It basically involves creating square blocks of color in the hair, some darker than others, layering them on top of each other, and then blending them all together. The color technique can either be subtle, using tones similar to your natural hair color, or much more daring using colorful bright tones.
Nationwide Insurance is attempting to explain their Super Bowl ad which left many viewers feeling uneasy due to its morbid nature. The ad features a little boy listing off several things he would never get to do in his life because he is actually dead. It ends with Julia Roberts saying, "At Nationwide, we believe in protecting what matters most -- your kids. Together, we can make safe happen."
The company said in a statement, "Preventable injuries around the home are the leading cause of childhood deaths in America. Most people don't know that. Nationwide ran an ad during the Super Bowl that started a fierce conversation. The sole purpose of this message was to start a conversation, not sell insurance. We want to build awareness of an issue that is near and dear to all of us -- the safety and well-being of our children. We knew the ad would spur a variety of reactions. In fact, thousands of people visited MakeSafeHappen.com, a new website to help educate parents and caregivers with information and resources in an effort to make their homes safer and avoid a potential injury or death. Nationwide has been working with experts for more than 60 years to make homes safer. While some did not care for the ad, we hope it served to begin a dialogue to make safe happen for children everywhere."

It may be time for Mattel to roll out Retirement Barbie. Friday morning, the toy-maker announced that the dollÂs sales dropped 16% in 2014, marking BarbieÂs third consecutive year of falling earnings.
"ÂThe reality is, we just didnÂt sell enough Barbie dolls,"Â CEO Bryan Stockton explained to investors last January, following MattelÂs disappointing 13% drop for 2013. The problem might not be sales strategies, but rather the doll and the impossibly slim body ideals she represents.

Are you an organ donor? New data reveals that over a 25 year period, organ donors have added over two million years to the lives of American transplant recipients. Researchers got this figure after identifying over 500 thousand patients who received at least one donated organ between September 1st, 1987 and December 31st, 2012. They then compared that group to over 500 thousand patients who were put on an organ waiting list but did not receive one. According to their calculations, people who had kidney transplants lived over a million extra years, those who received livers nearly 500 thousand extra years, and heart recipients lived over 465 thousand extra years. An average of 4.3 years were added to a life per transplant.
Easy there, pushy parents. A new study finds that helicopter parents are more likely to be rejected by their kids down the line than more hands-off parents. Researchers looked at 2,000 kids age two and up and measured "maternal directiveness," or the extent to which mothers controlled activities during play. The kids were then tested again at the ages of 10 and 11. All of the kids with helicopter parents were found to grow resentful of all the pressure piled on them when they were younger. In fact, the level of controlling behavior of a parent predicted whether or not they would be liked or disliked by their kids. Study leader Jean Ispa says, "Respect for autonomy is important, not only for children's growth, but also for creating positive parent-child relationships."

She's now keen to show the world she and Chris are an item." The insider added, "Chris feels torn -- he knows he could risk losing Jen if he doesn't make it official soon, but he's told her he is trying to tread carefully for Gwyneth's sake. It seems he isn't sure if she's ready to watch him and Jen become Hollywood's newest couple."
The magazine is also reporting that Gwyneth is allegedly ready to officially end her marriage to Chris by filing for divorce.

What age group do you go after? After analyzing the profiles of daters on OKCupid and OKTrends, researchers have created graphs indicating how our tastes in partners changes as we age. Study leader Christian Rudder says, "Women who are, say, 28 find guys who are also 28 about the most attractive, and so forth. Up until about 40, when that's getting too old." Not surprisingly, the findings reveal men at all ages find women at age 20 most attractive.
To that, Rudder comments, "From the time you're 22 you'll be less hot than a 20-year-old, based on this data. So that's just a thing. It is kind of terrible."
