Is Your Toddler an Artist? Good News!

Kids can draw some ugly stick figures and distorted faces, but a new study reveals these scribbles can actually mean something. Researchers plotted the development of nearly 8,000 pairs of twins, and the four-year-olds were asked to draw a picture of a child.

It was found that the more accurate and detailed drawings corresponded with higher intelligence levels measured when participants turned 14. The quality of the drawings was determined based on the details present, not the aesthetics. Study leader Dr. Rosalind Arden says, "The correlation is moderate, so our findings are interesting, but it does not mean that parents should worry if their child draws badly."
