Power Distorts Your Perception of Time
by Meg Duley,posted Aug 20 2014 4:16AM
No one likes being asked to do a timely task at 4:30 PM on a Friday. A new study finds that your boss might not be able to help it-- power distorts a person's perception of time. Managers were found to feel they had more time to do things, while workers without power feel the opposite. It's kind of true, as bosses have the power to extend a deadline or cancel a meeting, while those lower on the totem poll can't make those decisions. However, it was also found that powerful people also severely underestimate the time required to complete a task.
Experts say this may be because bosses focus only on the end goal, rather than the steps required to reach it.
