Fifteen-year-old Kieran Maxwell was given the surprise of his life when a group of off-duty police officers gave him an escort to his school prom. Maxwell was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer at the age of 12. Currently in remission, Maxwell needed to have part of his leg amputated three years ago which ended his dream of becoming a police officer.
A teacher at his school sent a letter to the police in Durham, England, hoping to lift his spirits. Maxwell told the Mirror that he was initially scared when the three police cars and two motorcycles showed up because he didn't know what was going on, but ended up saying that it was the best surprise ever and that it was the best part of the day.
